winter holidays in bardonecchia

Bardonecchia is one of those places where you can be at the beating heart of the town one minute and enjoying Olympic class areas the next. A real town with a real ski area – non skiers will love the facilities and shopping available in this old Italian resort, or take a day trip into historic Turin for a fantastic day out.
Bardonecchia is situated in  val SUSA, at 1312 mt and very near to the French frontier.
Two of its three ski areas are interlinked providing a fairly extensive ski area on two separate mountains. The year-round town has a very convenient road and rail link, making it a popular ski resort with weekenders from Turin, but this is the only time that the slopes do get a bit busy. Overall it’s an ideal area for beginners with un-crowded slopes and leisurely pistes ideal for cruising.
Bardonecchia was somewhat overlooked until the 2006 Turin Olympics brought investment to the town and raised its profile as a great value beginner and intermediate destination. For those wanting to test their skills or watch the pros head to the Olympic Snow Park and half pipe in Melezet, just a couple of miles away and reachable using Bardonecchia’s free town and ski bus.

Ski information
Beginners :      Melezet and Campo Smith both have extensive beginners areas and with guidance from the friendly ski school first time skiers are soon progressing to the higher long blue runs at Colomion and Melezet.
Intermediates :    The ski areas of Melezet and Colomion are linked by a series of magnificent long red and blue runs with several blacks to get the blood racing. The Fisi 50 from Colomion is a World Cup race run and was also an Olympic run in 2006! Take the free ski bus to the Jafferau area where a long double chairlift rises to 1922 metres.
Advanced :      Excellent off-piste skiing for the more experienced skier. High on Jafferau there are wide open bowls with bumps, jumps and gullies above the treeline. Heli-skiing is available for off-piste skiing behind Melezet.
